LeBron James Injury Update: Is He Playing Tonight Against the Brooklyn Nets?

LeBron James' Current Injury Status For Lakers-Warriors Game

The Los Angeles Lakers’ eight-game winning streak came to a disappointing end on Saturday when they fell to their long-time rivals, the Boston Celtics. However, the night was tough as LeBron James left the game early due to injury. Shortly after the game, it was confirmed that James had suffered a groin strain.

The Lakers will face the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, but they will have to do so without their superstar. James has been officially ruled out for the game as he begins the recovery process. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the 40-year-old veteran is expected to be sidelined for at least one to two weeks before undergoing another evaluation.

“Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is expected to miss at least 1-to-2 weeks with a groin strain, sources tell ESPN. James will wait for the groin injury to calm down over the next 24 hours and receive another evaluation,” Charania reported.

The injury happened on the very play where James scored his final basket of the night. Despite his early exit, he finished the game with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists.

The Lakers’ playoff positioning took a hit following their recent loss to Boston. It dropped them from the second seed to third in the Western Conference. On ESPN NBA, former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers weighed in on the Lakers’ situation. Myers predicted that the team could slip even further if James misses the next couple of weeks.

CL Pod 69: On LeBron Joining (and Kyrie Leaving) The Celtics
With the offseason in full effect for all thirty NBA teams, attention now turns to the process of assembling next season’s squads, and with the Boston Celtics poised to be among the league’s elite, you’d think it would look to be a slow summer. And you’d be wrong, if analysts like Stephen A. Smith are correct that LeBron James will meet with Danny Ainge this summer about joining the team. There’s also (potentially related) rumblings former LeBron teammate and current Celtics star Kyrie Irving may not want to stick around after next season, a plethora of trade proposals (most of them bad) to consider. Join Mark Allison and Justin Quinn as they try to make sense out of all this unexpected drama, as well as getting caught up on other news within the organization and around the league.  Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/celtics-lab-nba-basketball-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Talking COVID-19, vaccination and the NBA with In the Bubble’s Andy Slavitt
Much of the conversation ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season circulating in the NBA media has revolved around something that isn’t necessarily a basketball conversation, though it has pervaded virtually all aspects of contemporary life. We are of course talking about COVID-19 vaccination in the league, and in particular some especially vaccine-resistant players who occupy positions of considerable influence. But rather than making the story about those individuals, the hosts of the “Celtics Lab” podcast Justin Quinn, Cam Tabatabaie, and Alex Goldberg dug deep in the hopes of re-setting the narratives a bit surrounding how we should engage those persons and the issue of vaccine hesitancy (and more pernicious anti-vaccine sentiments) in society more generally. It can be hard for some of us in the media to see Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, and others resistant to making choices for the common good, but a steady stream of fan and media ire is almost certainly going to do little to change their minds on how they can best use their platforms (and bodies) to make us all safer (and teams perhaps more successful) in the midst of a pandemic.  To that end, we were incredibly lucky to have Andy Slavitt of the “In the Bubble with Andy Slavitt” podcast to talk on the intersection of public health in an era of COVID-19, the NBA and society at large. Andy has worked with the last three presidents on issues of public health, most recently serving as President Biden’s COVID-19 advisor. We hope you find this podcast as informative and helpful in coping with and making progress on this viral scourge affecting all of our lives as we did. Where are they now? Keeping tabs on players from the past with Honest Larry
The Boston Celtics can finally concentrate on finding the players on finishing their roster with the Kevin Durant trade request from the Brooklyn Nets rescinded, and in so doing will likely create some new alumni in the process by bringing on a few new players in place of the depth that they had in the 2021-22 NBA season. But where are the players from Boston’s past signing for this upcoming season? What teams and leagues are they signing with? Who is making the leap into coaching? Who are still waiting for the logjam that is KD that just broke to open up some spots for them to sign with a team in the Association? For this episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, we decided to take a trip down memory lane to get ourselves up to speed on where the alumni of the Celtics are going to spend the upcoming season.  To do that we enlisted friend of the pod and unofficial team Twitter historian Honest Larry, who linked up with your usual hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn to figure out where these blasts from Boston’s past hang their hats (and their jerseys) now. “If [LeBron’s groin injury] goes past two weeks, [the Lakers] could easily fall to 4th. The cushion isn’t huge. They’ve got 22 losses, Denver’s got 23, Memphis has 24, Houston has 25. That’s a three-game difference between them and Houston,” Myers said.

James’ injury comes at an unfortunate time, as James had been remarkably durable this season, playing in 58 games without any major health concerns. At his age, maintaining such consistency is rare. He had even expressed his determination to play every regular-season game to help his team in the tight Western Conference race. Now, that goal will have to be put on hold as he focuses on recovery.
