“Jordan Could Never” – The GOAT Debate Heats Up as LeBron James Becomes the First Player in NBA History to Reach 50,000 Career Points

LeBron James becomes first NBA player to score 50,000 total points

LeBron James made history on March 4, 2025, when he became the first player in NBA history to score 50,000 career points. This astounding number comes after combining total points in both the regular season and playoffs. This monumental achievement came during a game against the New Orleans Pelicans, where he hit a three-pointer in the first quarter.

Prior to this point, James had scored 41,837 points in the regular season, which is the highest all-time, and 8,162 points in the playoffs, giving him a total of 49,999 points. No other player in NBA history is within 5,000 points of this milestone, with Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in second place at 44,149 combined points. The closest active player to James is Kevin Durant, who has 35,191 combined points.

However, the moment inside the arena was surreal as the Lakers announcer Lawrence Tanter gave a nod to LeBron for reaching the milestone. Additionally, the LA fans also gave him a standing ovation with due respect to their LeGoat.

Playing in his 22nd NBA season at the age of 40, it’s so impressive of the Akron-born superstar to still rule the league with his play. He’s currently averaging nearly 25 points, eight rebounds, and over eight assists per game.
