Is The NBA Staying Silent On All-Star Game Ratings For A Reason? Speculation Grows Amid Mixed Reactions From Players

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game introduced a bold new format, featuring four squads competing in a mini-tournament rather than the traditional East vs. West showdown. However, the reception was far from enthusiastic. Even an anonymous GM voiced his frustrations.

While Stephen Curry supported the revamped format, several players, including Trae Young, Draymond Green, and Jaylen Brown, were vocal about their dissatisfaction. Their concerns seemed justified, as the new format not only received backlash but also struggled to capture the same level of engagement as previous All-Star events.

One major issue was the lack of continuous action. Reports indicated that out of the entire broadcast, only 42 minutes consisted of actual basketball. The experiment concluded with Shaquille O’Neal’s squad, the “OGs,” winning the tournament-style event.

Meanwhile, the NBA has remained unusually quiet about the television ratings for the All-Star Game. Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports pointed out this silence. He noted that while NBC and Peacock’s Saturday Night Live 50 special garnered 14.8 million viewers, there had yet to be an official announcement on the All-Star Game’s performance.

“SNL 50 ratings came out over 24 hours ago but no NBA All-Star yet. Things that make you go hmm,” Glasspiegel posted on X.

This delay has sparked debate over whether the NBA is avoiding the discussion because the numbers were underwhelming. If ratings took a significant hit, it would suggest that fans, much like the players, weren’t sold on the new format.

Chandler Parsons Criticizes LeBron James For Skipping All-Star Game

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game saw the absence of key stars, including LeBron James and Anthony Edwards. James’ decision to sit out drew particular criticism from former NBA player Chandler Parsons. During his appearance on Run It Back on FDTV, Parsons didn’t hold back when addressing LeBron’s absence.

Here’s the problem I have with LeBron James not wanting to play against Rising Stars: All these other NBA players have to play against his son, ” Parsons said.

In recent years, the event has faced growing criticism for a lack of effort from players. Many feel that the game has lost its competitive edge as stars treat it more like a casual exhibition than a showcase of elite talent.
