The Los Angeles Lakers recently endured a disappointing defeat against the Boston Celtics, with a final score of 111-101. Adding to the disappointment, star player LeBron James sustained an injury during the game.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that James is expected to be out for at least 1 to 2 weeks due to a groin strain. He will allow the injury to settle over the next 24 hours before undergoing another evaluation. In light of this situation, former Warriors GM Bob Myers has made a bold prediction about the Lakers.

“If [LeBron’s groin injury] goes past two weeks, [the Lakers] could easily fall to 4th [in the West]. The cushion isn’t huge. They’ve got 22 losses, Denver’s got 23, Memphis has 24, Houston has 25. That’s a three-game difference between them and Houston. So, I could see them slipping to four or five.” Myers said in the recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Countdown.

Myers is concerned that the Lakers do not have enough cushion in their performance to feel secure in the ongoing 2024-25 NBA season. He argues that if James were to miss two weeks due to injury, it would likely lead to the team falling in the standings.

Talking COVID-19, vaccination and the NBA with In the Bubble’s Andy Slavitt
Much of the conversation ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season circulating in the NBA media has revolved around something that isn’t necessarily a basketball conversation, though it has pervaded virtually all aspects of contemporary life. We are of course talking about COVID-19 vaccination in the league, and in particular some especially vaccine-resistant players who occupy positions of considerable influence. But rather than making the story about those individuals, the hosts of the “Celtics Lab” podcast Justin Quinn, Cam Tabatabaie, and Alex Goldberg dug deep in the hopes of re-setting the narratives a bit surrounding how we should engage those persons and the issue of vaccine hesitancy (and more pernicious anti-vaccine sentiments) in society more generally. It can be hard for some of us in the media to see Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, and others resistant to making choices for the common good, but a steady stream of fan and media ire is almost certainly going to do little to change their minds on how they can best use their platforms (and bodies) to make us all safer (and teams perhaps more successful) in the midst of a pandemic.  To that end, we were incredibly lucky to have Andy Slavitt of the “In the Bubble with Andy Slavitt” podcast to talk on the intersection of public health in an era of COVID-19, the NBA and society at large. Andy has worked with the last three presidents on issues of public health, most recently serving as President Biden’s COVID-19 advisor. We hope you find this podcast as informative and helpful in coping with and making progress on this viral scourge affecting all of our lives as we did. The dust has finally settled after an active trade deadline, with the Cleveland Cavaliers making big moves while the Boston Celtics stood pat. That event, the Paul Pierce jersey retirement ceremony, converges with the new-look Cavaliers at the Garden this Sunday for a convenient coincidence allowing Danny Ainge and company to sidestep the awkwardness swirling around the Isaiah Thomas tribute video controversy most of us would like to forget. Justin and Mark also dive into the potential of the buyout market, IT’s new situation with the Los Angeles Lakers, and some of the potential longer-term implications of the moves made this week for Boston and the rest of the league. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/celtics-lab-nba-basketball-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Boston gets to work teambuilding with Gallinari deal, Brogdon trade with Kory Waldron
The Boston Celtics were, by most accounts, not going to make much if any moves until the weekend got here. But whether that was a smoke screen or whether a happy accident set the Celtics team building wheels into motion, the team that represented the NBA’s Eastern Conference in the 2022 NBA Finals just got quite a bit better. It started with the team landing long-coveted veteran wing Danilo Gallinari, and went into hyperdrive with the trade for Indiana Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon, the Celtics sending out a top-12 protected first-round pick, center Daniel Theis, wing Aaron Nesmith, and three rarely-played deep rotation players. To get a feel for how Brogdon will impact a Finals squad that gave up no core players to bring on the Indiana floor general, we brought on host of the Off the Glass “Full Access Pacers” podcast, Kory Waldron. Your usual hosts Alex Goldberg and Justin Quinn linked up with Waldron to talk all things Brogdon trade, Celtics team building, and plenty more offseason action. “That comes from valuing other people’s time just measures how you value yours. If you’re not being respectful, when you’re late or you’re not being respectful of other people’s time, that’s a character thing for me. I’ve always been like that every since I was a kid, setting up my alarm clock when I was in elementary school.” James said.

The Lakers are currently in 2nd place in the Western Conference standings, with a record of 40 wins and 22 losses. Their next game is against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center.
