Dallas Mavericks vs. New Orleans Pelicans Post-Game Stats: Mavs Spoil Zion Williamson’s Historic Night With A Thrilling Victory

The Dallas Mavericks returned from the All-Star break with determination, securing a 111-103 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. Despite a dominant performance from Zion Williamson, the Mavericks pulled away in the final minutes, extending their winning momentum and maintaining control in the Western Conference race.
This victory marks Dallas’ fourth win in their last five games against the Pelicans, pushing their season record to 31-26. With a strong stretch of five wins in their last six games, the Mavericks now hold the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Pelicans continue to struggle, falling to 13-43 and anchoring the bottom of the West standings.
Zion Williamson Hits Milestone Despite The Dallas Mavericks’ Win Over New Orleans
Though the Pelicans came up short, Zion Williamson showcased why he remains one of the league’s most electrifying talents. He scored 29 points on an efficient 11-of-15 shooting and also added seven rebounds and two steals. Williamson’s performance was historic as well. With his 29 points, he became the third-fastest player in NBA history to reach 5,000 career points, achieving the feat in just 203 games.
The only players to reach the milestone faster are Luka Doncic (194 games) and LeBron James (197 games). Williamson also now has the second-most games this season with 25+ points on 70% shooting.
Trey Murphy III put up 20 points and six assists, while CJ McCollum added 16 points and five assists. New Orleans’ center Yves Missi battled hard inside, grabbing 10 rebounds. But the Pelicans struggled to close the game despite solid individual performances.
For the Mavericks, it was Kyrie Irving who took over in crunch time. Irving dropped 35 points on 11-of-22 shooting, including a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. P.J. Washington contributed 24 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Naji Marshall added 15 points, Dante Exum scored 16 points, and Klay Thompson had 12 points in the win.
