Travis Kelce’s Stance on Big Jason Kelce Development Further Fuels Retirement Rumors

In the wake of the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, retirement rumors have swirled around Travis Kelce. And while the current expectation is that Kelce will return to the field in 2025, a big development involving his brother, Jason Kelce, has kept the retirement rumors alive.

Travis has reportedly been contemplating retiring from the NFL in the wake of the Chiefs loss to the Eagles. His decision could have a huge ripple effect on Kansas City, but the legendary tight end has made it clear that he’s going to take his time before announcing his next move.

“I think I owe it to my teammates that, if I do come back, it’s going to be something that it’s a whole-hearted decision,” Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast. “Not half-(expletive) it. I’m fully here for them, and I think I could play. It’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human and as a person to take on all of that responsibility.”

Elsewhere in the Kelce family, Jason is preparing for his fourth child with his wife, Kylie Kelce. The former Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center lauded Travis as an “outstanding” uncle to his children, leading to a reaction from Travis that had folks wondering whether his strong ties to his family could lead to him walking away from the NFL.

“Hell yeah. You guys would be great. I can’t wait to (expletive) get up in there and have some fun with those girls and hand them right back to you,” Travis said in response to Jason wondering how he and Kylie are going to handle their crazy new lives on the latest episode of their “New Heights” podcast.

Kelce is fresh off his 12th season in the NFL, all spent with the Chiefs. He recorded 97 catches for 823 yards and three touchdowns in 2024, helping lead Kansas City to their third straight Super Bowl.

While the expectation is that Kelce will return to K.C. for the upcoming season, he hasn’t officially announced his decision yet. Reports have indicated the team has set a deadline of March 14 for him to make his decision.
