Sabrina Ionescu never takes a playoff, no matter the opponent. The reigning WNBA champion and New York Liberty star is currently on a historic three-city Asia Tour with Nike, making stops in Manila, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. While her visit marks a major moment for women’s basketball, a fiery exchange during an exhibition game in the Philippines has sparked heated debate.

During the showcase, Sabrina Ionescu faced off against a young defender- likely a high school or early college player- who refused to back down. The competitor played tight defense, frustrating the 27-year-old guard. What started as a stare-down escalated when Ionescu threw an elbow on the baseline, making hard contact before tossing the ball into his chest. Despite the questionable move, the foul was called on the defender.

Game Mode Or Over The Line?

The moment has divided fans. Supporters argue that Sabrina Ionescu brought her trademark intensity, refusing to take it easy in any setting. Critics, however, claim she lost her composure against an amateur, using the incident to discredit the WNBA’s talent level.

Ionescu eventually laughed off the exchange, but the clip continues to fuel online discourse. Whether it was justified aggression or unnecessary frustration, one thing is clear- she plays with a relentless edge. If this level of intensity carries over to the WNBA season, the Liberty might be on their way to another championship.

Celtics mystique, Showtime Lakers, frustrating starts with Anthony Irwin
The rivalry between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers is one of the oldest and most celebrated in all of sport, and for good reason. Somehow, nearly seven decades into the heated competition for dominance in greatness between the two storied franchise, the tally remains at a tie after the Lakers’ most recent title, with each club now at 17 titles each. This Friday, Nov. 19, the two teams will meet again on the Celtics’ home court of TD Garden, but this time around the two teams will not exactly be arriving at the tilt in the best of shape in terms of records, with each club struggling a bit early in the 2021-22 NBA season. On this episode of the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Lab,” your usual hosts of Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn are joined by special guest Anthony Irwin of Silver Screen and Roll and the “Locked on Lakers” podcast to talk about what’s behind each club’s slow start, and what we can expect to see Friday among several other topics.  If you’re of the ilk with tribalistic hatred for all things purple and gold, this might not be the pod for you, but if you want an honest look at both clubs as they are this season, hit play on the clip embedded above. Gearing up for a Brooklyn Nets-Boston Celtics collision with Nick Fay
The Boston Celtics will face the Brooklyn Nets later this week with the Eastern Conference’s top spot potentially at stake, and while a bit of the wind has been taken out of the proverbial sails of the matchup with Nets star Kevin Durant out for the game with a sprained MCL as well as an outside shot of Marcus Smart missing the contest with a contused knee, it will still be a very important game for the Celtics. More data for a potential postseason collision, the aforementioned top spot in play, and a chance to see if Boston will play the way they should despite the absence of KD all loom large. The growth of Brooklyn bigs Nick Claxton and Ben Simmons also figures to be a point of concern, and any time the team crosses paths with Kyrie Irving, things get intense. To that end, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with the host of the Off the Glass “Brooklyn Buzz” podcast Nick Fay to talk all things Celtics-Nets. The foursome get into how Durant’s absence may impact the MVP race, what sort of trade targets each squad might have interest in at the 2023 NBA trade deadline, and more. CLAB 48: Boston trades Ainge for Stevens as top exec as Danny steps down
The Boston Celtics followed up a disappointing first-round exit at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets in the 2021 NBA playoffs with a truly major shake-up internally, easily the biggest set of changes the organization has seen in nearly two decades. The announcement of longtime Team President Danny Ainge’s retirement and the elevation of Head Coach Brad Stevens to the position of Head of Basketball Operations not only radically transformed the Celtics organization at a critical moment for their aspirations of chasing an NBA-record 18th title. It also raised a host of questions about the future and direction of the storied franchise. Who will replace Stevens as head coach? Did Ainge make the right call? Is Stevens the right man to replace him, and who else might have been in the mix — or perhaps should have been?  In this episode of the Celtics Lab, we talk about the tumult currently in process within the organization and what we think about the future of the club under its new structure. Join hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg and Justin Quinn as they get down to brass tacks about the future of our favorite franchise in light of the earth-shaking news.
