BUYER’S REGRET Best Buy admits ‘regret’ as shopper walks out without desired item – staffer’s response was ‘sign’ to go elsewhere
A SHOPPER has slammed Best Buy after walking out after having to wait for just one item without help.
The infuriated customer didn’t even get the product because the service was so poor, according to her post on social media.
They took to X to share their sorrows on December 3, 2024.
The complaint said: “I walked out of @BestBuy after being in the store for over 20 minutes wanting to buy an Apple Watch and one person working the area and everyone would pass by and not ask if I’ve been helped and another lady was waiting too.
“Just took that as a sign to save my money and walked out.
“The worst part is the place barely had customers so I don’t get why they were ignoring us.”
Lots of customer complaints recently have focused on the lack of service people have been receiving at big name retailers.
Many huge names like Walmart and Costco are stoking the frustration of customers by having a lack of employees on shift to help.
Best Buy responded to the post: “Thanks for reaching out via Twitter. I regret to hear that you had a negative experience at one of our locations, and I can understand how frustrating that may be.
“I would love to have your feedback and concerns documented here within our corporate systems, as well as passed along to store leadership at that location.
“Would you be able to send me a DM with your full name, telephone number, email address, and location you were shopping at?”
This reply is longer more detailed than most that are sent on X.
More often than not, the retailer leaves a customer complaint form to fill out, and it becomes hard to know if there was any outcome to the interaction.
Although it is unknown if this complaint was taken any further, Best Buy seem more willing to address the issue at hand.
BEST BUY EXPERIMENT
Best Buy announced that they are expanding upon a bold experiment for their stores, reported by The US Sun.
Best Buy‘s CEO Corey Berry said: “We will continue our disciplined annual approach to closing or relocating less profitable locations.
“Last year in The U. S, we closed 12 traditional big box stores and opened two new stores.
“This year, we expect to close roughly five to 10 stores and open a few new smaller format stores.”
US braces for ‘45,000 store closures’
Some 45,000 bricks-and-mortar stores could close in the next five years, experts have warned.
Several major retailers have announced store closures or gone out of business altogether in recent years.
In 2023, chains such as Foot Locker announced plans to close up to 400 outlets by 2026.
While, other well-known retailers like Tuesday Morning and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams filed for bankruptcy in 2023.
Bed Bath & Beyond has closed all of its brick-and-mortar stores and is now an online-only retailer.
The most affected retailers have been clothing, consumer electronics, sporting goods, hobby, book, music, and home furnishing stores since the start of 2019.
UBS has predicted the total number of retail stores will drop by 45k from 958k to 913k.
Despite that, the report says that certain stores should thrive while others decline.
It said retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, and Target, could be among the winners.
The company introduced its “small-format, digital-first store” concept back in 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This was a 5,000sq ft location aimed at creating a curated selection of products for shoppers.
Best Buy wants to reinstate their physical footprint and refine their choices.
Barry explained: “To be clear, we’re not remodeling every store in the fleet.
“But what we are doing is taking, I would argue, kind of a stronger position than we ever have to ensure that the shopping experience reflects that kind of excitement and that sparkle that technology brings to life.”
