Before Urban began singing, he reflected on Gayle’s career.
“She first played the Opry when she was 16 years of age. She was later inducted in as a member right here on this very stage by her big sister, Loretta Lynn,” Urban said. “She’s always been her own artist.”

With that, Urban told the crowd at Ryman Auditorium, “This song was a giant cross over hit. I’ve never played. I really wanted to do it tonight in honor of you, Crystal.”
He went on to do just that. Gayle herself was on hand for the performance, and couldn’t have looked more delighted as she watched Urban sing her GRAMMY-winning track.
“I love you Crystal Gayle!” he proclaimed, before diving into his own 2016 track, “Wasted Time.”
