The Cleveland Cavaliers pulled off an exciting victory against the Brooklyn Nets, winning 109-104 thanks to an incredible performance by All-Star Darius Garland. He lit up the fourth quarter, scoring 18 of his 30 points when his team needed them most.

This win preserved the team’s impressive momentum while matching their franchise record with a 15-game winning streak. The Cavaliers rallied back from a daunting 18-point deficit in the third quarter.

Jarrett Allen joined Garland in the effort, who chipped in a solid 23 points along with 13 rebounds, while Evan Mobley continued to shine with 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

However, their hilarious celebration after the win caught the attention of the Cavs fans. Garland started running in circles as he saw Allen stomping towards him. The arena was also heard cheering for the two Cleveland stars as they orchestrated their celebration, which ended in a chest bump.

With this win, the Cavaliers improved to one of the season’s best starts in NBA history, an impressive 55-10. Additionally, the team boasts the best home record in the league at 30-4. The Cavs still showed off their depth despite missing key players like Donovan Mitchell due to groin soreness and De’Andre Hunter’s illness.

Why Boston is probably not making big moves at the deadline with Yossi Gozlan
With the Boston Celtics rolling and their path to hanging Banner 18 looking more possible than it has in many years, you can’t fault fans of the storied ball club for hoping for a reunion with former Boston big men Daniel Theis or Kelly Olynyk. Or failing that, team president Brad Stevens getting a deal done for rumored target Isaiah Stewart to fortify the team’s frontcourt. But even fairly modest trades like these are probably not in the cards for the Celtics this season, who can’t follow through with an offer that makes sense given the exigencies of the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement or the team’s current structure. But the team will almost certainly make at least a few lesser moves to get better ahead of the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline in Early February, so the hosts of CLNS Media’s “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with Cap Sheets’ Yossi Gozlan to try to project what it is Boston actually will end up doing. We also get into why those fun but unrealistic deals bringing back Celtics alumni or Beef Stew are unlikely or impossible, and get caught up on the last Boston news of 2023. What’s true, false, or too soon to tell about early-season Boston Celtics trends with Chris Forsberg
With a total of about 15 games played by most teams in the NBA at this point in the 2022-23 season, we have enough data to be able to say some things about the league, the Boston Celtics, and their players. What we are seeing on the court may not be who they are at the end of the season, but we can at least make some educated guesses. Which weird starts from teams are real? Is Boston’s offense the real deal? Can the Celtics defend like they did last season? Will Joe Mazzulla’s performance earn him a non-interim status upgrade this season? Could Marcus Smart repeat as Defensive Player of the Year, and could Jayson Tatum really win this year’s Most Valuable Player award? The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast teamed up with NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg to try and figure out what’s real, what’s fake, and what’s too soon to tell about the trends we-re seeing early this season. Join your usual hosts Alex Goldberg, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Justin Quinn as the foursome dives into what we are seeing in the early going of this season. Despite a challenging game leading up to the fourth quarter, Darius Garland rose to the occasion when the stakes were highest. He dropped 18 points in the fourth quarter of the game to lead the Cavs to their back-to-back win.

However, his performance earned him high praise from Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson. Following his team’s thrilling victory over the Nets, he boldly declared Garland this season’s ‘clutch player of the year.’

“Clutch player of the year. I mean, he just does it in the fourth quarter. He’s done it all year. I’ll give us some credit for starting him in the fourth normally, that’s not his rotation…18-point fourth quarter. I liked that he kept pushing the pace. He wasn’t slowing it down, wasn’t looking for mismatches. He was using his speed and skill,” Atkinson said.

Struggling through the first three quarters with only 12 points, the talented guard faced criticism and pressure after a recent slump that followed a hard fall against the NY Knicks. Yet, instead of retreating, he leaned into the moment and stepped up when the team needed him most.
